What Era Should You Have Lived In?

Fifteen questions to find your century — and what would have destroyed you in it.

About this test

Historical nostalgia has a design flaw: we always imagine ourselves in the good role. You picture yourself as a philosopher in Athens, not as a slave in the silver mines at Laurion. You dream of being a painter in Florence, not the apprentice grinding pigment for six years without signing anything. This test refuses that reflex: every result gives you the era that matches how you actually operate, a verifiable fact that explains why, and what would have destroyed you there.

The fifteen questions never mention history. They're about how you win arguments, how you get into a closed world, what you do when an idea offends people, and what you want to be remembered for. The eight eras are real and documented: fifth-century BCE Athens, Imperial Rome, Abbasid Baghdad, Quattrocento Florence, Enlightenment Europe, industrial Britain, the 1920s and the 1970s.

Read your whole result, including the second half. That's the part that separates a personality test from a postcard.

How it works

Every answer maps to an era. We add them up and the one in front takes the result; the percentages show your mix. Each of the eight eras appears seven or eight times across the questionnaire, so none of them starts as the favourite.
